Belted Galloway Beef

Our grass-fed and -finished heritage breed Belted Galloway beef is one of the healthiest beef choices available. Similar to Highland cattle, the Belted Galloway is also an ancient Scottish breed that has been unchanged since its original improvement in the 1700’s. Its small, sturdy frame and double layered hair coat make it exceptionally able to thrive in harsh Canadian winters. Due to its thick hair coat, the Belted Galloway does not grow the thick outer layer of fat under the hide common to most other breeds. Instead, the meat is marbled throughout for exceptional flavour and tenderness. Our cattle are 100% antibiotic- and hormone-free, and eat only pasture grass and hay.

We offer a variety of popular cuts. Please call or email for price and availability.

Please note: For best enjoyment, Belted Galloway beef needs to be cooked low and slow. Cooking to more than Medium done is not recommended. As with other grass-fed and -finished meats, the meat is very lean and will become tough with over-cooking.

Berkshire Pork

Our heritage breed Berkshire pigs are pasture raised throughout the warmer months, and able to roam freely in their sheltered barnyard paddock throughout the winter. An ancient breed that predates the industrial revolution, the Berkshire was developed in England by crossing English, European, and Asian breeds to created a medium-sized, sweet-tempered pig perfectly suited for pasture grazing. Our pigs are 100% antibiotic- and hormone-free, and eat only fresh pasture grass, hay, scraps from our home and garden, and a special soy- and corn-reduced grain blend. Like our beef, our Berkshire pork is marbled for succulent flavour unmatched in common domestic breeds.

Rustic Roots Farm lives up to its name by offering a great selection of  non-GMO produce organically grown from heirloom seeds without insecticides and chemical fertilizers.
